My theatre teacher-husband and I were discussing this mere moments ago. I asked him if the kids at the high school he teaches at were dressed up, he said they were. I asked if all the girls looked like hookers, and he said they did. "You can call yourself a pirate, but everyone thinks you're a hooker," he pointed out.

See!! I TOLD you that you should have a blog! You are hysterical! A riot, even.
And,I also HATE Halloween. For all the reasons you stated. When I was still teaching in the classroom, I dreaded this day more than any other because all the girls who were sluts and wannabe-sluts took this day as some kind of permission to literally let it all hang out. It's freakin' snowing out and they're coming in fishnet tights and a 2T t-shirt.

I love this story. Not because I'm an fan of anything Hipster or Alt-Country (whatever the Hell that is), but because in my story it was a well timed, random reference to a Safety Blitz that sealed the deal early on in my relationship with my now husband. Viva la Tool!

I'm here thanks to Señor Crouch.

I grew up in Philadelphia and have been to the original beach hangout of the NJ clan. Let me tell you, it was no different than it is on TV. That little slice of reality TV, Although scripted and, like all reality TV, editd and reshot for effect, it's about as true to that world as I've seen with my own eyes. The problem is not just that we have created this non-celebrity, but the fact that thee people already believed they were celebrities long before their first red carpet STD-walk. I remember the first time I heard someone claim they were going to "party like a rockstar" - I chuckled silently to myself, now I hear it all the time. We're a cult of self celebrity these days. Maybe we need to return to teaching our children that they'll never amount to much (ok, that's a bit far-reaching and a joke). Me, I watched for a few seasons, but then gave up on TV. I was tired of watching British sitcoms get run through the American comedy machine. ;)

I've always thought Ricola would be the perfect name for a dog. I love the idea of having a valid reason to yell Riiiiicola in the park.
